Montpellier-le-Vieux can be visited in the spring, in the autumn and in summer. In the spring, when the vegetation bursts and strews with delicate flowers. In the autumn, when the approach of the winter gives brilliant tints to foliage. In summer in the morning, when the sun is not too high or even in the evening when it goes down again.
The site is closed the winter.
Montpellier-le-Vieux is too vast to be seen in one visit entirely.
Several marked out circuits are available to you: a main route, which shows the main rocks in one hour of easy waling. Secondary routes which allow amateurs, walkers or discoverers to take out beaten tracks in search of forgotten rocks and of peace.
For seniors, families and all those who wish to discover the site effortlessly. Lasts 50 minutes. First departure of the small train : 10:00 am. Last departure of the small train : 4:30 pm (6 pm in July and August).
Commented visit in French by the driver. 2 trains of 60 places each available.

The Great Plateaus offer to hickers picturesque sets of ruiniform rocks like the ones of Nimes-the-Old man or the Arcs of St-Pierre on Méjean, of Caylar on Larzac, Rajol and Montpellier-le-Vieux on Black Causse.
Among the latter, Montpellier-le-Vieux is by its surface as vast as all the others joined together. The variety and the picturesque of its rocks, the diversity of the forms do not have any equivalence. See the access map
